The NBA finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association of the year 2021-2022. In this playoff series the golden State warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in six games winning their fourth championship in eight years. The NBA playoffs began on April 16th and ended on June 16th,2022. The NBA announced that it would celebrate its 75th anniversary throughout the 2021-22 season. The finals MVP was Stephen Curry who put on a show as he led the dubs to a convincing victory of 103-94.The NBA finals returned to its normal schedule for the first time since 2019 before the pandemic began.
Boston Celtics
The Celtics head coach Brad Stevens president of basketball operations has replaced Danny Ainge after he has announced his retirement. Needing a replacement for Stevens, Brooklyn Nets assistant coach Ime Udoka has been selected as the 18th head coach of The Celtics. After a loss against the Los Angeles clippers, the Celtics finished the season with a record of 51-31, winning 35 of their finals 47 games to finish with the second best record in conference.
In the first round of the play-off the Celtics won in four games. The Celtics then faced the MVP Giannis and defending champion Bucks going down in series before winning the series in seven games. The Celtics had won in seven games, reaching the finals. This is their first win since 2010 and 22nd in their history.
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors began the season by winning 18 of their 20 games. Andrew Wiggins was named a start for the NBA All Star game. The Warriors reached the for the first time in three years in the postseason. In the first round of the play-off, the Warriors got past the Denver Nuggets in five games. After defeating Luke Doncic in five games the warriors advanced to the Finals for the the sixth time in eight seasons.
After playing 141 playoff games without an NBA Finals appearance,Al Horford helped lead the way for Boston with 26 points and for the Warriors.Stephen Curry got a start with off scoring 21 points and shooting 6-for-8 in the first quarter.
Anniversary Promotions
A 75th anniversary diamond logo was featured across all NBA properties including the merchandise, the logos, across social media and the courts. It also announced the 75th anniversary team honouring the greatest players in NBA history of all time. These players were chosen by a panel of media, current players, former players, coaches,general managers and team executives . All NBA uniforms feature Nike and Jordan brand logos embedded with diamond. The logo on the back of the jersey was modified to feature the diamond embellishments and the NBA mark replaced by the number 75.
The NBA also unveiled a new set of awards to honour championship winners and the MVP of the conference finals. The division championships were named after Sam Jones, Chuck Cooper, Earl Lloyd etc
